  • Barkat Halal Butchers, RK77 wrote 10 years ago:
Barkat Halal butchers prides itself on food hygiene and cleanliness. It's certificates from both the local council as well as Halal monitoring organizations attest to this fact. Unfortunately, a member of the public has seen fit to tarnish the butchers' reputation by making false allegations about their hygiene. The local council is working together with the butchers and the local community to stamp out unjust victimization and racial discrimination.

To Mike Meadows; The Halal butcher's is next door, and is completely separate to the Chinese 'takeaway', (not a restaurant). As a matter of fact, the authentically prepared Chinese food sold at this establishment is delicious, and the very lovely people who run the place have been there for over 30 years now. Judging by the inaccuracies in Mr. Meadow's description of the establishment, he's obviously never been there. It seems his comment here may simply be a poorly chosen platform for a rant about religion. Get your facts straight.

  • Veterans Contact Point, RK77 wrote 11 years ago:
The acquisition of this site by the Veterans Contact Point meant the main and most widely used entrance from Bentley Road was permanently closed to children and parents coming to and leaving the school. Now only two inconvenient exit points remain; one from Merevale Avenue and the other from Queens Road.

I remember this place when it was a post office. I can vaguely recall the many jars of sweets as well as the gigantic vintage analogue weighing scale with the triangular dial, which was used for weighing posts and parcels.

The main ustad/headteacher of this place along with his wife tends to have an attitude problem with parents who have noticed the below par teachings at this establishment, when parents drop their children off here the teachers of this place slams the doors shut in front of the parents. At the end of the madrashah’s teaching time they encourage students to buy out of date unhealthy snacks, such as sweets and chocolates. A number of parents have complained to them, to stop selling unhealthy snacks, but this madrasah establishment has not listened to the parent’s advice.
